After overseeing several training sessions, new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has begun shaping his vision by closely assessing the club’s first-team squad.
The early signs have been encouraging. Young talents Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato both caught the eye during Rosenior’s first match in charge—a convincing 5-1 FA Cup victory over Charlton Athletic. With a heavily rotated lineup, several fringe players took full advantage of their opportunity to impress.
One notable omission from that matchday squad, however, was Tyrique George. The Chelsea academy graduate has struggled for minutes in recent months and has been on the periphery of the squad since November, making just two starts across all competitions.
Now, reports suggest George is set to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal during the January transfer window, with interest coming from clubs both in England and abroad. The winger was close to joining Fulham on deadline day last summer, but the move ultimately fell through due to administrative complications.
The potential exit comes as a surprise to some observers, especially given the belief that George could have thrived under Rosenior’s management. Journalist Barry Cooper previously claimed the young winger’s style and attributes made him an ideal fit for the new head coach’s system.
Despite that optimism, it appears George will not be given the chance to stake his claim at Stamford Bridge. He is also unlikely to feature in Chelsea’s upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal, even as the squad grapples with several fitness concerns.
For Tyrique George, a January departure now looks increasingly inevitable as Chelsea continue to reshape under Rosenior’s leadership.
